Tom Ingram was fastest today at Silverstone as it was announced all motorsport would cease until at least 30th April due to Covid-19
The BTCC teams took to the track, spectators were sadly turned away due to the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak. The drivers got to grips with their machines, only for it to be announced early afternoon the season is postponed until at least the 30th April.
With this announcement it means three rounds are affected which TOCA will look to reschedule if possible.
Ingram led the way with an impressive performance, behind a close second was Jake Hill in the Honda Civic proving he could be in for his best year.
Ingram said, “It’s obviously pleasing to set the first fastest time of the season,” said Ingram. “I really like the International layout – it’s a cool little track that should generate some good, exciting racing with its mixture of fast, medium and slow-speed sections.
“We saw today that the times were really close – almost a mirror image of the National circuit – and we got lots of laps in. We completed almost 100 laps in total, which enabled us to work through a lot of our planned programme and the car felt really good. We’ve definitely taken a big step forward with the Corolla over the winter, and the best bit is we know there’s even more still to extract. We’re in a really good place right now.”
Rookie and 2019 JCW champion James Gornall impressed with 11th overall in his first BTCC test against the 2020 competition. The new Hyundai’s impressed with Senna Proctor 6th and Chris Smiley 10th. Reigning champion Colin Turkington ended the day 5th overall.
We will bring you updates as soon as we hear them regarding the calendar and the remainder of the season.
