The past weekend saw the Britcar Trophy teams tackle the Silverstone National circuit in tricky conditions throughout the day. There was a field of 29 cars on the 1.62 mile circuit. Qualifying took place at 9:25 on a damp track making it a tricky session for everyone. Pole was taken by the Simon Baker and Kevin Clarke’s BMW 1 Series with a time of 1:01.731, just 0.641 ahead of the BMW of Lucky Khera and 1.126s in front of Mark Lee in the G56A Ginetta.
Race 1 started the same as qualifying in regards to the track conditions but Simon Baker lead the field into Copse and lead for the whole race with the exception of the 2 min pitstop to change over to Kevin Clarke. The Peugeot 308 of Terry Stephen’s end its race in the gravel and the Team Brit M240i had been making up positions until an issue with the car caused them to stop at Beckett’s and do a full reset. In the end the Simon Baker and Kevin Clarke’s BMW took the win with Mark Lee in his G56A 2nd and Lucky Khera 3rd in his BMW.
Race 2 started after a full 2 hours of rain and it was still falling as the cars made it around to the grid. Unfortunately the G40 of Charlotte Birch had an electrical failure leaving the garage and the G56A of Axel van Nederveen was also absent. Same as race 1 Simon Baker lead the field into Copse with Lucky Khera alongside but eventually dropping behind. The race was shortened to 35 minutes because of the approaching curfew. Lucky Khera made an uncharacteristic mistake beaching his BMW in the gravel at Brooklands bringing the safety car out for a lenghty period, neutralising the race for the most part. Simon Baker and Kevin Clarke took the win, Terry Stephens’ in his Peugeot 2nd and Richard Higgins 3rd in his Porsche.
The final points paying rounds take place At Donington Park of the Grand Prix layout on the weekend of 23-24th October with all 3 championships up for grabs.
