Sky Tempesta Racing takes on the
GT World Challenge with new driver line-up

Following a successful debut season, Sky Tempesta Racing will compete in the GT World Challenge Europe series when racing resumes on 25 July 2020 at Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari near Imola, Italy.

Having finished third in last year’s Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup Pro-Am Standings, the team aims to build on this momentum and enters the Pro-Am class in both the Endurance Cup and Sprint Cup series with a new driver line-up.

Chris Froggatt (GBR) and Edward Cheever III (ITA) will contest the eight-round full GT World Challenge Europe calendar while Jonathan Hui (HKG) will join the line-up for the four Endurance Cup rounds. Sky Tempesta Racing will field a 2020-spec Ferrari 488 GT3 with the #93’s new 2020 livery emblazoned with the colours of Sky and sporting sponsorship from H.R. Owen, Hublot and Topaz Detailing.

The team has not squandered the delay to this season’s opening race. 2018 Ferrari Challenge Champion Froggatt has been keeping sharp by competing in the SRO E-Sport GT Series Championship that ran from April through June while motorsport faced lockdown due to COVID-19. Hui took up boxing in addition to his regular training regime, while Cheever has been in Italy pushing himself in his second passion, cycling, as well as joining Froggatt in a number of esports endeavours.

Esports has seen a huge surge in popularity this year due to the ‘stay-at-home economy’. Sky Tempesta Racing has partnered up with Kunos Simulations – the company behind Assetto Corsa Competizione – to offer Sky VIP customers the opportunity to win an incredible racing prize via the My Sky app. Entrants will have the opportunity to win a racing simulator to compete at home, a copy of Assetto Corsa Competizione and a trip to one of the GT World Challenge Europe races of their choosing, with the chance to jump in a Ferrari 488 GT3 for a passenger ride (COVID-19 restrictions permitting). Runners up will receive consoles and copies of the Assetto Corsa Competizione game.

Now, the countdown is on until Froggatt, Hui and Cheever take to the #93 Ferrari 488 GT3 for the GT World Challenge Europe debut event on 25-26 July 2020 in Imola, Italy.

Here is what the drivers had to say:

Chris Froggatt: “I’m so excited to resume our campaign this year: finally we are back on track. I’ve spent countless hours on the sim during this interim period trying to keep my skills sharp, but we all know there is no substitute for the real thing. I’m eager to get back out in our 488 GT3 EVO, build on the experiences of last season and push myself further. I am very happy to be sharing the car again with Jonathan and Eddie; we formed a strong relationship during 2019, working well together in this highly demanding environment. We’ll be ready to give the first race – and the entire season – our all.”

Jonathan Hui: “It gives me great pleasure to be back with Tempesta Racing for a second season contesting the GT World Challenge Endurance Cup. Despite being a new team, we showed our potential last year as front runners in our category with two podium results, leaving us hungry for more. Over the winter, work continued behind the scenes to try and bring improvements to all aspects of the team with a single focus to perform at an even higher level. I cannot wait to get behind the wheel again with Chris and Eddie to fight together for the championship win.”

Eddie Cheever: “I’m really happy to be starting the season; it’s been a long break since my last race. Imola is a very challenging track but we are more than ready to get started. I’m lucky to have two very fast teammates with me for the season, and we will try our best to win some trophies during the year.”
